Will There Be An August Heatwave?

The incredible weather we enjoyed during July came to a very abrupt end indeed, with the onslaught of stormy conditions hitting a lot of the country over the last few days. But don’t despair – all is not yet lost and it seems that the sun hasn’t forsaken us all for good just yet.

News just in from the Met Office suggests, in fact, that we might well see another two-week heatwave pop up again halfway through August, so don’t put your barbecues and bottled gas away just yet… you’re sure to be able to make excellent use of them again before the summer is out.

Speaking to iNews, a Met Office representative said that it is perhaps still too early to predict what the entirety of August will bring with it, but it seems right now that the first half of the month will see a mix of sunshine and rain.

But predictions from the weather forecaster itself for the month state: “Although confidence in the detail is low, there are tentative signals suggesting that high pressure may become more dominant during the middle of August, bringing more settled, drier and warmer conditions for many.”

So, basically, no one really knows right now if there’s going to be a heatwave or not, but we’re sure to see some sunny spells, so you’ll all be able to barbecue at home without a doubt!

If a heatwave does, indeed, hit our shores, just make sure you take care when at the grill. Stay properly hydrated while you cook, wear plenty of sun cream, avoid drinking too much alcohol and try to set your barbecue up in the shade if possible.
