How To Clean A Gas Barbecue

We all love to get the BBQ fired up as soon as we have a sunny afternoon, or a clear, warm evening promising a night of alfresco cooking and dining.

However, there are the inevitable chores that follow a BBQ feast. Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to keep your gas BBQ grill in good condition to ensure it’s ready for when you need it, as well as ensuring you have the right tools and essentials!

Here are some tips for caring for your gas BBQ grill.

How often should I clean my bbq?

You should wipe down your BBQ after every use, and give it a thorough clean inside every three months, and the exterior once a month.

You’ll need a pair of rubber gloves, a sturdy hard-bristled brush for the grill, a two-sided sponge, a plastic scraper for shifting stubborn residual grease, a microfibre cloth, and a cleaning spray – specialist BBQ cleaning sprays are available.

How to clean the inside of your bbq

First, and most important – disconnect the gas supply from the grill. Then, spray the grill grate with the cleaner, and set it aside to soak in before scrubbing with the abrasive side of the sponge and rinse it off.

Then spray the inside of the BBQ and leave for a few minutes. Remove any grease and food residue with the scraper, and then wipe it clean with the sponge. Wipe the drip tray and the bottom tray clean, but careful not to get any water onto the burner tubes.

Wait for it to completely dry before reassembling the BBQ. It may be a good idea to treat the grates to a non-stick spray to finish.

How to clean the outside of your bbq

Using an enamel or stainless steel cleaner, spray the appropriate parts and leave for a minute. Then, using a microfibre cloth, wipe the applied spray from the surface. Wipe the panels with warm water and a sponge, using another microfibre cloth, dry the surfaces thoroughly.

It is always advisable to store your gas barbecue away properly in a secure, dry place, wherever possible and practical. A proper barbecue cover will also help to maintain your grill in good condition.
